Privacy Policy
Effective Date: June 1, 2025 · Last Updated: June 1, 2025
1. Introduction
Welcome to Storm Chaser, a free browser-based arcade game published by Storm Chaser. This Privacy Policy explains our approach to data in connection with Storm Chaser (the "Game"). By using the Game you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy. If you disagree with anything here, please feel free to close the tab — no hard feelings.
Storm Chaser is built around the philosophy that a game should be fun, not surveilled. Every decision in this document flows from that belief.
2. The Data We Collect
Your storm-chasing score is tracked in localStorage under 'sc2_best'. Like data in a Faraday cage, it stays shielded on your device and is never struck by external access.
Beyond your score, the only data that may reach us is what any web server automatically receives:
- IP address — logged briefly for security and DDoS protection, then purged or anonymised
- Browser and OS — used for compatibility debugging, not for profiling
- Request timestamp and URL — standard access-log entries, retained for a short period
3. Local Storage — Your Score, Your Device
The Game uses your browser's localStorage API to save your high score between sessions. This is stored under the key sc2_best and exists entirely on your device. We cannot read it, modify it, or delete it. Only you can — by clearing your browser's site data for this page.
We do not use HTTP cookies, tracking pixels, fingerprinting scripts, or any form of cross-site tracking.
4. Third-Party Services
The Game loads typefaces from Google Fonts via its CDN. This means your browser makes a request to Google's servers, which may log your IP address. We have no control over Google's logging practices; consult their Privacy Policy for details. No other third-party scripts, analytics services, or advertising networks are loaded by the Game.
5. Children and Young Players
Storm Chaser is designed for everyone, including younger players. We do not collect personal data from anyone — child or adult — and require no registration of any kind. Parents and guardians should feel comfortable allowing children to play without concern for data exposure.
6. How We Use What We Have
The limited server-log data we receive is used exclusively for:
- Security monitoring and protection against abuse
- Diagnosing and resolving technical problems
- Understanding aggregate traffic patterns (without individual identification)
- Complying with applicable legal obligations
We do not use any data for advertising, marketing, profiling, or sale.
7. Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or trade any data. We may disclose log data in the following narrow circumstances:
- When legally compelled by a valid court order or government authority
- To prevent or address imminent harm or security threats
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer (subject to this Policy continuing to apply)
8. Data Retention
Server access logs are retained for a brief period (typically 30–90 days) and then deleted or anonymised. Your local score data is retained indefinitely on your own device until you clear it. We retain nothing about you on our servers beyond routine, time-limited access logs.
9. Security
We apply standard web security practices including HTTPS transport, access controls, and log rotation. Because we store no personal data on our infrastructure, the risk to you if our systems were ever compromised is minimal. We recommend keeping your own browser and device updated as a general practice.
10. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction you may have rights to access, correct, restrict, or erase personal data. Since we hold only brief, anonymised server logs, these rights apply narrowly. To make a request, contact us through Storm Chaser's official website or repository. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in our practices or in applicable law. Material changes will be flagged by an updated "Last Updated" date above. We will never silently introduce new data-collection practices; any significant change will be clearly described. Your continued use of the Game after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
